Recycling Plant Operator

Job Description:

Train in all aspects of the Recycling Plant and follow standard operating policies. Assist in the achievement of operational targets whilst maintaining high levels of quality, safety, and environmental awareness within the department.

City: Lexington Contract Type: Full-time Job-Code: 2488 Department: Production

Schedule: Swing Shift, 12-hour rotating, 7am-7pm & 7pm-7am

Starting Pay: $19 + $3 shift premium

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a member of a team and to ensure that the Recycling Plant which is part of the Rawboard department is maintained in a clean, tidy and organised condition.
  • Undertake a comprehensive training programme to be able to run every aspect of the Recycling Plant.
  • Set up and operate the equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Adjust and optimize settings to maintain/improve quality and increase output.
  • Monitor equipment and the production process to detect evidence of operating problems.
  • Take readings from charts, meters and gauges at established intervals, and take corrective steps as necessary.
  • Inspect quality, identify and correct defects.
  • Identify the root-cause of defects in product and recommend processing adjustments to eliminate the defect.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and production issues.
  • Record and compile operational data, completing and maintaining forms, logs, and reports.
  • Observe and comply with all safety precautions as detailed in the Health and Safety procedures and to ensure that safety equipment is in good order and used at all times.
  • Ensure that the operation and related tasks are conducted in a safe working manner and that any incidents/ accidents and hazards are duly reported.
  • Ensure the Recycling Plant equipment/ machinery is maintained in good order.
  • Liaise with the Rawboard Supervisor and the Production Manager as to the condition of the equipment or machinery with regard to any faults or production problems.
  • Assist with training of co-workers as needed.
  • Participate in other tasks as assigned.
  • Attend training courses as and when required.

    Qualifications
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Good communication and team skills and a working knowledge of Excel and PC based applications.
    • Experience with tools and machinery.
    • Good organizational skills and good mechanical/electrical aptitude.
    • Demonstrate ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
    • Work efficiently and manage time effectively.
    • Possess physical strength and stamina required to stand, walk, and lift for long periods of time (can be in extreme climate conditions).
    • Manual dexterity to handle tools and the ability to lift and move 50 pounds to perform routine functions.
    • Ability to work at heights, in hot, noisy & dirty environments required.
    • High ability to manage stressful situations.
    • Work in confined space or areas restricting movement.
    • Basic understanding of math, reading, and writing.
