Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision performs routine maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance tasks in such areas as carpentry, masonry, electrical, heating, venting, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and grounds.

Work consists of repair and re-build , painting, troubleshooting and repairing HVAC units, wiring, replacing electrical fixtures, etc. Performs a variety of duties in receiving, issuing, handling, and accounting for capital and non-capital inventory for the college. Issues supplies, materials, and equipment. Receives delivered supplies, materials, and equipment; confirms that delivered goods match purchase order specifications; completes all necessary paperwork for items received and forwards to appropriate staff. Utilizes handheld computers to properly account for issues, returns, receipts of materials/equipment.

Organizes and maintains warehouse and inventory area for efficient material/equipment storage and handling. Maintains labeling/tagging system and associated records. Operates equipment/vehicles to properly handle materials being received, issued, stocked, and picked.

As needed, provides general support and assistance with maintenance of college buildings and grounds.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Associate's degree and two (2) years directly related work experience; or a high school diploma and four (4) years directly related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate will have knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in trades work. Knowledge of techniques, methods, requirements and practices used in trades work. Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment. Skill in making emergency and general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building, repair and maintenance work. Ability to read blueprints, plans and specifications.Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to communicateeffectively and use sound judgment and initiativeto complete routine work without direct supervision.

Additional Comments

May be assigned to perform duties and responsibilities at any of the college's three county service area locations, including the Main Campus in Denmark, SC or its sites located in Barnwell and Allendale counties. This position will require extended work hours as work dictates. Physical requirements will require bending, stooping, climbing ladders, squatting, and lifting of 40 pounds or more unassisted. Must maintain a valid driver's license. Will require working in adverse weather conditions. Working knowledge of inventory control practices. Working knowledge of computer operations. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions relating to equipment operation, loading and unloading of materials. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and vendors; ability to organize items by broad and specific classifications. Ability to follow standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment operation work; follow written and verbal instruction; and to maintain accurate records.
