Job Description:

Perform highly skilled and supervisory work over skilled trades staff engaged in the maintenance and repair of the City Waste Water Treatment Plant, Wetlands, Satellite Pump Station, Water Plant or Power Plant.
Essential Job Functions

  • Plan, organize, prioritize, coordinate, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees; provide training and counseling as needed.
    • Supervise and perform a variety of diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on plant equipment, including pumps, fans, gear boxes, shafts, chemical feed equipment, water lines, valves, belts, motors, electrical panels, generators, boilers, bar screens, and the like. Perform offsite pump station repair/diagnostics.
      • Maintain written and computerized records, logs, and reports related to the work.
        • Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are available to crew; order supplies and materials as needed.
          • Ensure that proper safety standards and precautions are followed.
            Ancillary Job Functions
            • Research, write and implement equipment operational, monitoring and inspection procedures.
              • Assist in preparing annual budget for plant maintenance, capital outlay, and improvements. Call for pricing and receive bids for equipment.
                • Serve as backup for the Chief Operator position (for position at the Water Treatment Plant).
                  • Respond to emergency or unusual problems after hours.
                    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
                      Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
                      • High school diploma or equivalent required.
                        • Minimum of five years relevant experience required.
                          • Positions assigned to the water plant must possess and maintain an "A" level water operator license within one year of hire.
                            • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
                              Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
                              • Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques; ability to plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.
                                • Considerable knowledge of practices, tools, and equipment associated with one or more trades, such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or related field.
                                  • Ability to operate a forklift.
                                    • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and safety.
                                      • Ability to operate basic office equipment, such as computer, copier, and fax machine.
                                        • Considerable knowledge of standard hand and power tools/equipment used in plant maintenance and repair activities.
                                          • Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to plant maintenance and repair work.
                                            • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.
                                              • Ability to operate diagnostic equipment in order to diagnose problems and make repairs on a variety of plant equipment and systems.
                                                • Ability to operate hand and power tools in a safe, efficient manner.
                                                  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
                                                    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, engineers, vendors, and contractors, and the general public.
                                                      • Ability to respond to emergency or unusual problems outside normal business hours.
                                                        Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
                                                        • May be exposed to wet/humid conditions, inclement outdoor weather, vibration, mechanical oils, extreme heat, airborne particles/fumes, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, very loud noise levels, potentially hazardous bodily fluids, or potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents/chemicals, high pressure steam, flammable and compressed gas.
                                                          • May be required to work in confined spaces, hazardous traffic conditions, or high/dangerous places.
                                                            • Exposed to moderate to very loud noise levels.

                                                              • Regularly required to talk and listen.
                                                                • Must be able to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, stand, walk, drive, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb/balance, operate mechanical equipment, and move up and down from/to sitting position on the floor.
                                                                  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on the computer.
                                                                    • Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify/distinguish colors, and precise hand-eye coordination.
                                                                      • Must be able to lift 100 or more pounds.
                                                                        • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
                                                                          Hours/DaysM-F, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
