Job Responsibilities
Telecommunications Operator for the Midlands Technical College
Police Department Communications Center. Receives calls requesting
assistance or information on Midlands Technical College campuses.
Dispatches information to Midlands Technical College Police and
Security Officers via two-way radio systems, telephones, and other
electronic mediums. Operates and maintains Midlands Technical
College Police Department Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system;
documents all radio transmissions, call in reports, teletype
reports, SLED/CJIS, NLETS, and NCIC transactions. Monitors fire
alarms, burglar alarms and campus surveillance systems; maintains
all certifications & skills required for proficiency needed to
operate all associated equipment & databases; maintains all radio
equipment, computer and audio recorder systems, and reports all
issues that cannot be fixed to supervisors.

This position is located on the Airport Campus in the Campus Police
department.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma. Must be a US Citizen and at least 18 years
old. Ability to convey and interpret oral and written
communications to and from law enforcement officers and the general
public. Must be able to complete SLED/CJICS NCIC Certification
within six (6) months of hire. Ability to speak clearly and
receives or relay information accurately. Strong working knowledge
of telephone and radio communications equipment. The ability to
remain calm and make quick decisions during stressful situations
and emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year experience with voice communications systems
or central switchboard operations. NCIC Full Function
Certification. Demonstrated proficiency working with modern
communication systems. Prior experience in a customer service
environment preferably a Emergency Services Communications
Center.
