Summary
This position is under the Health Administration Service at the
Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia, Mo, which is a Complexity
Level 1c facility. the incumbent operates facility's telephone
system / switchboard. Receives and connects incoming and outgoing
calls. Routes the calls to their proper destination and provides
organizational information to callers. Operates the installation
paging system and monitors various emergency alarms and takes
appropriate actions.

Duties
Operates facility's telephone system/switchboard. Receives and
connects incoming and outgoing calls. Routes the calls to their
proper destination and provides telephone and organizational
information to callers. Answers or places non-routine telephone
calls such as international calls. Interviews incoming caller to
determine how to route the call and routes the caller to the
appropriate department or service. Operates the installation paging
system. Regularly handles a variety of difficult calls, which
require personal involvement on the part of the employee, such as
threatening, abusive or distraught callers. Initiates a trace with
local telephone and police authorities when dealing with
threatening calls. Monitors various emergency alarms and takes
appropriate action; maintains a log of all calls/incidents;
protects the confidentiality of information; involves shift work
which may include nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and
occasionally, overtime. Requires ability to function efficiently
under stress and handle numerous tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements
by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023.
General Experience: Applicant must have 1 year of general
experience or 2 years of education above High School or a
combination of the two if you meet federal service eligibility as
described above. General experience is progressively responsible
for clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to
acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to
perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples: serving
as a receptionist or any kind of work that involved frequent
telephone contacts.
You will be rated on the following Competencies for this
position:

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work

Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary but may
involve some standing and walking to consult directories and

Additional information
