Job Description:

The Administrative Coordinator provides oversight of administrative services for the Department of Public Safety. Collaborate and align with Claflin Universitys policies, procedures and best practices related to human resources, fiscal services, performance evaluations, safety and risk management, payroll, employee relations, procurement, professional development, and record-keeping. Exercise independent judgement within the scope of the position for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors as prescribed. The coordinator serves as a member of the supervisory team for Claflin University Public Safety Department. This position reports to the Executive Director of Public Safety.Provide guidance and scheduling of mandatory courses and recertification credentials as required by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.Collaborate and consult with Public Safety and Human Resources on the development and implementation of a strategic recruitment plan designed to recruit and retain a diverse pool of highly qualified public safety candidates through employer branding and external /internal recruiting strategies.Analyze internal processes and recommend and implement procedural and / or policy changes to enhance operations efficiency.Act as a responsible employee under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which includes timely reporting of incidents of sexual harassment / misconduct.Assist with identifying training resources to address competency gaps and to assess training needs for new and existing employees.Assist the Director of Public Safety in the development, review, presentation, and monitoring of the budget for the Department of Public Safety.Provide oversight of contracts, requisitions, equipment, and supplies.Coordinate off-site travel and training activities for employees.Perform other assigned duties within the scope of this position.At least 21 years of age.High School diploma or equivalent required. An associate or other advanced degree from a recognized accredited institution preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, security management, loss prevention, or military preferred. A combination of past law enforcement, private security experience, and education may be considered.U.S. citizen or legal resident alien.No felony convictions.Previous supervisory experience preferred.Experience managing a fast paced, high traffic volume, and demanding office.A valid South Carolina drivers license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of hire.Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to accurately write reports, facilitate training and make presentations.Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality.Must possess strong interpersonal, technical, organizational, planning, and business results skills.Must demonstrate the ability to be responsive, approachable, and courteous when responding to the needs of a diverse university and community population.Must demonstrate the ability to investigate, mediate and resolve conflict involving students, department personnel, and community members.Must demonstrate ownership, accountability, and teamwork.Must possess the ability to meet established timelines.Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all University employees and other Public Safety agencies.Must be able to review, comprehend, interpret, communicate and ensure compliance of policies, procedures, laws and regulations.Must be willing and available to assist Public Safety by working duties associated with University special events.
