Job Summary

The Linux IT/Database Administrator is responsible for install, support, and maintain server operating systems or other computer systems and the software applications pertinent to its operation, while also ensuring current defensive mechanisms are in place (IAVA Patches, etc.), and responding to service outages and interruptions to network operations.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Administers server-based networked systems, distributed applications, network storage, messaging, and application monitoring required to provision, sustain, operate and integrate cyber networked systems and applications.
  • Core competencies include: server operating systems, database administration, web technologies, systems-related project management and helpdesk support for computer operators.
  • Supports identification, reconnaissance and remediation of vulnerabilities while enhancing capabilities within cyber environments to achieve desired affects.
  • Utilizes enterprise patching tools to implement security updates and patches to include: Information Assurance Vulnerability Assessments (IAVA), C4 Notice to Airman (C4 NOTAM), Time Compliance Network Orders (TCNO), Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO), operating system patches, and antivirus software. Implements and enforces national, DoD, and Air Force security policies and directives.
  • Performs proactive security functions to deter, detect, isolate, contain, and recover from information system and network security intrusions.
  • Maintain systems are such as NARAS, Battlespace Command and Control Center Theater (BC3-T) Operation Center, Joint Range Extension (JRE), Air Defense Systems Integrator (ADSI), Multi Source Correlator Tracker (MSCT), Tactical Display Framework (TDF), Digicomp systems, EPLRS, MIDS terminal, KIV-7, KG-40, TACLANE, KY-100, KIV-19A, LMS, SAS, DTS-K, RARITAN KVM, Blue Force Tracker, ADS-B, KSV-21, AN/VRC 103, KG-175D, but not be limited to those listed in Table 6.1. Suites of Systems and Support Equipment.
  • Analyzes database changes and makes suggestions to improve efficiencies.
  • Adheres to internal policies and regulatory compliance requirements such as SOX, DCAA, Change Control, and audit reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to diagnose performance of Microsoft Operating Systems (i.e. Windows Server 2008 32/64 Bit and R2).
  • Demonstrate proficiency of web application development and relational databases.
  • Excellent data communication and people skills.
  • Current on the latest database advances within industry plus familiarity with other database platforms such as Oracle, DB2, and Enterprise DB.
  • Basic understanding of OSI Model, Networking, Web Farms, NLB technologies, Data Marts, and Enterprise Data Warehouse

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an associated discipline or two years on the job training.
  • Preferred Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) in one or more of the following DBA certification paths: Database Administrator 2008, Database Developer 2008, and/or Business Intelligence Developer 2008.
  • Minimum IAT Level II, RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or Linux
  • Minimum Seven (7) years experience in database administration/system, design, and performance tuning and IA technology or related area.
  • VMWare certs desirable, but not required

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Normal Office Environment

Travel

  • Limited, minimal.

Certifications Required:

8570 Level 2 baseline certification

VMWARE VCP Data Center Virtualization

RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or Linux
