Night Shift, 7:00 PM 7:30 AM | 36 hours/week guaranteed | Holiday
coverage and floating required Position overview The PCU Registered
Nurse Nights provides high-acuity stepdown care to patients
requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, vasoactive drips, advanced
lines, and noninvasive respiratory support. This role is ideal for
experienced critical care and PCU nurses who are confident managing
complex patients, titrating drips, and floating to related units
when needed. Key responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to
PCU/stepdown patients, including cardiac, respiratory, and
post-critical care populations. Titrate vasoactive and
antiarrhythmic drips such as neosynephrine, amiodarone, cardizem,
and other high-risk infusions per protocol. Manage and troubleshoot
central lines, PICCs, arterial lines, and other vascular access
devices, ensuring line integrity and infection prevention. Monitor
cardiac rhythms, interpret telemetry, and respond promptly to
rhythm changes and clinical deterioration. Administer medications
safely, including management of IV, PCA, and epidural pumps,
following facility policies and critical care standards. Provide
airway and respiratory support including CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow
systems (Optiflow, Vapotherm, AirVo), and tracheostomy care. Float
to other appropriate units (e.g., telemetry, med/surg) as needed
based on census and staffing, maintaining PCU-level standards of
care. Required qualifications Active, current RN license
(state-appropriate) at time of submission. Minimum 2 years of
recent critical care experience; PCU and/or ICU background strongly
preferred. Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Demonstrated experience with IV insertion, advanced line
management, and titration of vasoactive drips. Ability to manage
high-acuity stepdown patients, work night shifts, cover holidays,
and float per facility policy. EMR proficiency; experience with
Meditech critical care/PCU workflows preferred. Core competencies
Critical thinking and rapid clinical decision-making for patients
whose conditions can change quickly. Cardiac monitoring and rhythm
interpretation with appropriate escalation and intervention.
Advanced line and airway management, including central lines,
arterial lines, CPAP/BiPAP, and high-flow systems. Strong teamwork
and communication skills within a multidisciplinary PCU and float
environment. Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic care setting
with variable patient acuity and census. Patient safety and
quality-focused care with accurate documentation in Meditech EMR.
Additional assignment details Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is
1:3, though ratios may vary based on census and staffing and are
not guaranteed. Equipment commonly used includes BiPAP/CPAP,
Optiflow, Vapotherm, AirVo, IV and PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and
wound vacs. Travelers may be downstaffed approximately 36 48 hours
