Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred, 3 years preferred License: Current license required Certifications: BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP Must-Have: Minimum 2 years of experience to be comfortable working on the unit, as it can be challenging for those with less experience. Unit will accept first-time travelers, but candidates should have experience in a similar high-volume setting. Strongly prefer RN with circulating experience in the operating room. Skills required include circulating, performing a sterile vaginal exam, and being competent in immediate newborn care. Unit is fast-paced and has a higher acuity than typically expected. Description: The unit averages 20 births in 24 hours. There are approximately 30-40 admissions and 40 visits per day, with 20 rooms available. It may be required to precept or orient new staff members to the unit as needed. Float requirements are necessary as needed for a special maternity care high-risk OB unit. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule. The unit cares for obstetrical patients who are 16 weeks and greater, including high-risk antepartum and postpartum care. Care is also provided for high-risk patients under 16 weeks on the high-risk maternity unit. The unit has an obstetrical triage area for patient screening prior to admission. Routine outpatient procedures include antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, and medication administration. Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, as well as rescue cervical cerclages, are performed. Patients may float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby. Travelers are not permitted to work both travel per diem and travel contract simultaneously. Candidates must be comfortable with floating as per job requirements without restrictions. Two manager or supervisor references from within the past 12 months are preferred. Travelers cannot work more than 5 consecutive days or exceed 60 hours in a week.
