Job Description:
Mechanical Project Engineer - Paulsboro, NJ
Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 base salary + Bonus. Medical,
Dental, Life insurance, STD, LTD, 401k Match, PTO.
Job SummaryThis position will require skills in project management
mechanical engineering, and 3D modeling using Solid works or
AutoCAD. The candidate will also require the necessary skills and
be able to conceive, design, oversee fabrication, and test various
equipment and tooling in support of fabricating and transporting
huge offshore wind structures. To be successful in this role, you
need to be a self-starter that is able to thrive in ambiguity,
identify problems and quickly resolve them, and provide definition
to the previously undefined. You should have a commitment to
quality and safety with the discipline required to achieve it. You
will be a trail blazer for the company, so you need to be
self-motivated and able to influence both Engineering and
Production in order to effectively implement your plans. You need
to be comfortable with design/analysis desk work, while also being
ready to get your hands dirty with support for equipment in the
factory and field.
Responsibilities - Acts as a Sr. Engineer who can work both
independently and in a team environment in the production of
structural construction documents including drawings,
specifications, bidding and construction support for fixtures,
tooling, lifting devices, transportation solutions, buildings,
system enclosures, and system supports. - Create concept designs
using 3D modeling software and present to other disciplines to
establish a basis of design - Refine concepts into detailed and
cost effective designs complete with drawings, technical/functional
specifications, process descriptions and diagrams, etc. (ability to
perform structural and FEA analysis a plus) - Translate engineering
requirements and concepts into detailed designs and fabricated
equipment to support Production. - Work directly with vendors to
identify and source components and fabrication and to develop cost
estimates and lead times to be included in overall project budgets
and schedules - Reviews and evaluates shop drawings and product
submittals. - Maintains and manages budgets for projects including
hours and resources. - Prepares Engineering Reports. - Oversee
fabrication at vendors including reviewing and approving shop
drawings, conducting onsite inspections and attending factory
acceptance tests - Manages commissioning and initial start-up/use
of fixtures and equipment in the factory including receipt
inspections and performing site acceptance testing - Provide
troubleshooting and technical support for production equipment and
fixtures to shop floor personnel - Work with manufacturing
engineering and production to develop cost reduction and continuous
improvement initiatives - Spearhead efforts to develop the factory
of the future by creating design solutions that support automation
and rapid iteration.
Skills And Competencies
- Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, industrial, structural
or manufacturing engineering. - Minimum of 5 years of experience
designing mechanical structures (FEA and structural analysis a
plus) - Machine design experience with bearings, motors, controls
etc. - Extensive experience operating in CAD (preferably Solid
works) and creating assembly drawings. - Extensive experience
project managing a product through its lifecycle-from concept thru
design into commissioning. - Experience interfacing with
manufacturing engineers and technicians. - Self-starter that has
demonstrated the ability to define and own a product from minimum
requirements and concepts. - Mechanical design experience with
automated systems and integration with robots. - Strong writing and
communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. -
Use of computer analysis software experience is essential. -
Knowledge of structural failure mechanisms including material
failure in metals and composites, instability of structural
elements, and fatigue and fracture mechanics. - Knowledge of
structural dynamics and static equivalent loading. - Experience
with Heavy Lift - Troubleshooting of mechanical test systems,
including servo-hydraulic controllers and hydraulics - Experience
with mechanical test setup and fixture design - Design for
Manufacturability (DFMA), statistical analysis, tolerancing,
GD&T - Experience in mechanical testing, test lab operations,
and testing projects. - Coordinate and lead all aspects of project
to ensure timely completion of tasks to ensure optimum engineering
of projects/programs to meet customer and manufacturing
requirements - Communicate project status to engineering, vendors,
upper management, customers, and other stakeholders - Develop and
establish project timelines, cost estimates, and project options -
Demonstrated leadership of projects and teams with prior
supervisory responsibilities - Ability to develop and meet project
schedules, along with contingency plans - Time management skills to
support multiple concurrent projects. - Ability to establish
project plans, manage engineering support and resources necessary
to carry out project, and to report on status/metrics as required -
Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Willing to
learn new skills and engineering knowledge - Manage schedule and
work output consistent with project deadlines - Positive team
players committed to excellent work product - Proven ability to
work in a team environment. - Good communication (oral, written,
presentation), interpersonal, negotiation and organizational
