To teach English language skills to adults (ages 17+) from diverse backgrounds to enable them to achieve their academic, personal, work-related, and family goals.

Please Note: Teacher Certification is NOT required to apply for this position.


  • Perform responsibilities of Part-time ELL instructor and meet program guidelines.
  • Develop multi-level instructional lessons in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Provide instruction to adult learners in a mixed-level classroom using varied grouping strategies (e.g. whole group, small group, cooperative learning, and individualized).
  • Implement English Language Proficiency Standards in the classroom.
  • Day hours: Maximum 12 hours per week Or Evening hours: Maximum 7 hours per week
  • Maintain Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) certification and meet professional development requirements
  • Develop clear educational plans based on data that address the needs, objectives, learning styles of adult learners
  • Focus instruction on achieving academic gain, as defined by the State, with students
  • Utilize testing and diagnostic materials to develop an educational plan for students

    Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of the Columbia Public School District.


    Reports To: Adult ELL Coordinator and CACC Director

    Supervises: N/A


    Minimum: Bachelor's degree required. Must possess or be eligible to meet State requirements for Adult Education and Literacy Teacher Certification.

    Preferred: Familiarity with standardized tests, ability to analyze data, and teacher experience.

    Language: Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance. Read, analyze, and implement curriculum and assessment data to plan instruction. Present information effectively and respond to questions. Write clear and complete lesson plans. These are essential functions of the job.

    Computation: Work with mathematical concepts and analyze data for instruction. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. These are essential functions of the job.

    Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students. Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement. These are essential functions of the job.

    Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously. These are essential functions of the job.

    Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district. These are essential functions of the job.

    Physical Demands: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. Move around the classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students. Read handwritten or printed material. These are essential functions of the job.

    Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

    Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active
